           The Department of Marathi was established in 1971. General Marathi was introduced in the year 1972; while special Marathi was started in 1973. Marathi Language & Literature were introduced at MA level in1992. Teaching & Leavening activities are being thought at BA, & level under Pune University. In addition to this the Department offers conventional, Skill oriented, project-based learning, interdisciplinary Courses at UG Level, Communication Skills in Marathi & Mass Communication Courses under Restructuring Program are taught by the teachers of Marathi Department, Under U.G.C.’s program Certificate Course in Journalism has started at first year B.A. Level. The U.G.C. has sanctioned Rs.7.50/- Lacks as seed money to the Department. The semester pattern is offered for PG Level.

             Research activity has gone up particularly in the last five years. The faculty members are actively involved in research activity. Dr. Rajendra Salalkar has applied for Minor Research Project to UGC in 2011. Dr. Shantaram Chaudhari has Completed Two Minor Research Project during 2008-2010 under U.G.C. & B.C.U.D., Pune University. Major Research Project Proposal has been sent to U.G.C. In addition to this Two Research papers, published by Diamond Publication, Pune a reference book entitled “Marathi Wangmay : Tantra ani Aswad Samiksha”. (ISBN NO. 978-81-8483-188-7). Dr. Chaudhari is also working as co-editor of ‘BHUMI’ in a Journal published at Nanded. And Dr. Rajendra Salalkar is actively working as member of ‘Dr. Padmashri Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil Awards for Literature’ at state Level & District Level.

    Our Inspiration

Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, the pioneer of Sugar Co-operative movement, who had a humble beginning, was chiefly instrumental in, organizing the much exploited sugarcane 'growers of the 44 villages, in and around Pravaranagar, way back in 1948, and establishing Asia's first co-operative sugar factory, which was commissioned in 1950.
